Purnima (Original Name: Rita Hanif) is a National Award winning Bangladeshi film Actress. She was born in 11th July 1981. Her ancestors are from Fotikchori Chittagong, though she was born and raised in Dhaka. Purnima started her career in 1997 in Dhallywood film (Bangladeshi Bangla Movie) “E Jibon Tomar Amar” as a leading actress, when she was studying in class nine.
After all this years, she still appeared in films as a leading actress. In 2010, Purnima awarded the Bangladesh Government’s Award for best actress for her performance in Director Kazi Hayat’s “Ora Amake Valo Hote Dilo Na”. Besides acting in film, she occasionally performed in TV dramas and advertisements.

Renowned Dhallywood Director Zakir Hossain Razu first discovered Purnima. She cast her as a leading actress “E Jibon Tomar Amar” in 1997. In that movie, her co actors were Riaz and Dhallywood Legend Bobita. The film was released in 1999 and was very successful in Box Office. When her debut film released she was studying in class 9. Film Actress Purnima managed to get nationwide attention from her first film. After that she never had to look back. Within few years she became one of the leading actress in Bangladeshi Film Industry.
Though, after her debut movie “E Jibon Tomer Amar”, four of her film, “Mone Rekho Amay”, “Khabordar”, “Mayer Samman”, and “Iblish” didn’t do well in box office. Her fifth film “Nishwase Tumi Biswase Tumi” was a hit. Though, in that film she the leading actress was Shabnur and Punima played a role as supporting actress. In all of her first film, leading actor with her was Riaz. In her seventh film “Hingshar Poton” in 2001, first time she acted with someone else than Riaz, it was Shakib Khan. The film was a flop. From 2002 to 2009, Purnima acted in 18 films and all of featured Riaz as a leading actor.
Bangladeshi Actress Purima’s most successful films are “Nishshashe Tumi Bishshashe Tumi”, “Villain”, “Moner Majhey Tumi” and “Ridoyer Kotha”. Films like “Modhu Purnima”, “Miss Diana”, “Shontan Jokhon Shotru”, “Jibon Chabi”, “Kallu Mama”, “Shasti”, “Shubha”, “Akash Chhowa Bhalobasha”, “Premer Naam Bedona” and “Joddha” did average in Box Office but her performances were praised by critics. Purnima’s most commercially successful film is “Moner Majhey Tumi”. The film was a Bangladesh and West Bengal (Indian State) Joint Venture Bengali language movie.
